nanotecnologia ufrjIMA, along with the Institute of Biophysics, Institute of Physics and Materials Engineering and Metallurgy, is a Promoter of the Nanotechnology Undergraduate Course, which is multi-unit course; During four years, IMA has been coordinating the course, which received 4 out of 5 in the first MEC (national ministry of education) evaluation, obtaining its recognition in 2014. This course allows a strong integration between undergraduate and graduate students, both in the exchange of experiences during co-orientations, as well as participation in mini-courses, lectures and laboratory presentations, as well as end-of-course projects, besides the academic orientation and the joint participation of these in the UFRJ’s congress of Scientific Initiation. An important differential of the course is the subject of Introduction to research in Nanotechnology, which exists in 4 modalities, bionanotechnology, physics, chemistry and materials, students must do the 4 mandatory subjects which are essentially practical, each one of 90 hours, making a total of 360 hours; therefore, the course permeates various laboratories in the UFRJ and external, or even international, when in foreign exchange, which promotes interaction between undergraduate and graduate students. This strong interaction usually comprises, for the most part, projects to undertake scientific initiation and participate in the research and with the professors of the Graduate Program. This interaction brings great benefits to both undergraduate and graduate students and the positive feedback generated in this process is a great incentive for the program's Professors and the students involved.

Since its creation, the IMA Faculty members have been constantly involved in the Nanotechnology Undergraduate Course. Professors Luis Claudio Mendes and Maria Inês Bruno Tavares, Permanent Professors of the Postgraduate Program in Polymer Science and Technology, are effective members of the Teaching Structure Nucleus (NDE) of the Undergraduate Course in Nanotechnology at UFRJ. The other professors teach subjects, especially those involved in the area, besides being academic advisors and also administer the discipline of introduction to research in nanotechnology.

From March 2014 to February 2018, the Coordination of the Graduation Course was done by the IMA, and Professor Maria Inês Bruno Tavares was the coordinator in this period. Another Professor of our Graduate Program, Professor Luis Claudio Mendes is an effective member of the Graduation Committee, and Professor Diego de Holanda Saboya Souza and Maria de Fátima Vieira Marques are effective members and representatives of the IMA in the Commission of Guidance and Academic Evaluation (COAA).

The IMA had an effective place for Professor in 2013 and held a public tender for the nanotechnology area, and former IMA student Diego de Holanda Saboya Souza was approved. The aforementioned Faculty acts directly in both the Graduate Program and the Undergraduate Course in Nanotechnology.

In addition to this course, some permanent IMA professors of the Graduate Program work in other undergraduate courses, offering courses in Chemical Engineering courses at the School of Chemistry, Materials Engineering at the Polytechnic School of Engineering, Environmental Engineering at the Polytechnic School and of the Bachelor of Chemistry in the Institute of Chemistry, all these courses are from UFRJ.
